General duties: JPs serve as elections officials, hear tax abatement requests and tax appeals, administer oaths, may be a notary public ex officio, may solemnize civil marriages in Vermont, and may serve as a magistrate when so commissioned by the VT Supreme Court.
Term: Elected every two years at the General Election held the second Tuesday in November. Though locally elected, justices of the peace are county officers.
